April 26: Even more tornadoes!

Texas did not disappoint yesterday, April 25th! We witnessed a very pretty tornado near the small map dot of Bula, which is south of Sudan in the Panhandle. As mentioned in yesterday’s update, one of those outflow boundaries interacted with this storm and helped produce this tornado and large hail. Take a look at how big this storm was on RadarOmega:

A pretty, dusty tornado spins near Bula / Beck, Texas!

Several Rapid Deployment Devices were out yesterday, but 2 were able to be impacted by the tornado warned storm. Below you can see the positions of RDD-1, 2, and 4 relative to radar.

RDD-2

Here’s a 20 second clip (audio warning) of golf ball and larger hail falling in the RFD as the storm passed.

RDD-2 also captured the local tumble weed migration…

The Insta360 camera on Vince’s vehicle also captured a Timelapse of the entire evolution of the tornado, from initial wall cloud to the final product.

After the tornado, the storm became a massive, high-precipitation hailer!

Finishing the day off with a pretty sunset.

What’s coming?

We’ve got a few problem areas on the table the next few days. For today, we’re targeting the western Texas Panhandle down toward Midland. Don’t be surprised to see a slight risk introduced in that area in later SPC outlooks. It may even be there by time you’re reading this!

The latest HRRR model for the 6PM timeframe shows a few storms in the mentioned area. If this comes to realization, it may be another good chase. The tornado risk is much lower today, however.

Tomorrow

Tomorrow, the slight risk moves up to Nebraska. We’re going to have to sit this one out. We need to get ready to be in Iowa / Wisconsin on Monday!

Monday - The Big Day

Not going to get super into details until tomorrow when CAMs come into range, but the red area is a moderate risk (level 4/5) from the SPC. The chance for strong tornadoes is higher than usual in that area, and I would not be surprised if several tornadoes are a problem on Monday.
